Introduction
Sitting at the beginning of a new year, with constant bombardment of bad news, I find myself wishing there was a better roadmap for a way out of the mess in which we here in the United States find ourselves. That, really, was the inspiration for the theme ‘Signposts.’ It’s not because I’ve written a resource that addresses that question per se, but because we as God’s faithful people find ourselves living discipleship in a new world. The Signposts laid out for us in this Lenten series have less to do with fixing our present reality (though perhaps you might find some actionable things as you dwell with the series) and more to do with navigating a life of faithful discipleship in unfamiliar terrain. At its heart, Signposts is grounded in a conviction central to the Christian story: that God does not wait for us to arrive safely before meeting us, but meets us along the way—especially in wilderness, risk, thirst, uncertainty, and crossing over. Lent becomes not a moral improvement project, but a journey of reorientation toward a God who is already present.
My hope is that Signposts on the Way will serve not as a map with clear answers, but as a companion for the journey—a reminder that even when the road ahead is uncertain, God continues to meet us, guide us, and lead us toward life. You are invited to engage this season through weekly worship and daily devotions. Let the words, prayers, and Scriptures shape your attention, deepen your trust, and open your heart to the life God is bringing forth.
